I’m a full-stack designer, fierce advocate of Design Justice, professional communicator, and facilitator.
Currently a Garage Designer on IBM's Client Engineering team, I have nearly a decade of combined Design Experience ranging from visual design, to UX, consulting, facilitation, strategy, and research. From designing album artwork and marketing materials for local musicians, to prototyping experimental Augmented Reality concepts for Autonomous Vehicles, I've dipped my toes in many design pools.
My life purpose is to seek solutions for a sustainable, healthy, and equitable future. I align to that purpose in my 9 to 5 through socializing and advocating for Design Justice and universal design, leading communications for the IBM Austin Black Business Resource Group, and delivering keynote presentations on inclusive practices that combat toxic tech.
I serve as a a director and trusted advisor of the Center for Sustainable, Healthy, and Equitable Communities. I am also the Secretary of the City of Austin’s Project Connect Community Advisory Committee, where I engage the community and advise on anti-displacement and equity matters related to Austin’s public transportation initiative.
In my free time, I enjoy starting books and never finishing them, eating snacks, and going to the movies alone (for the snacks). You can find me at home most evenings making music for nobody but myself to enjoy.
At IBM Client Engineering, cross functional teams work closely with clients to co-create minimum viable products using IBM’s hybrid cloud technology. This is a hybrid design and consulting role, in which I lead top clients through IBM Garage Methodology, and use UX challenges to provide validated, deep, and actionable insights that drive sustainable, user centered business decisions. These insights are a result of enterprise design thinking workshops, that I craft and facilitate for clients to understand their needs, identify pain points, and discover opportunities for IBM products to help achieve their goals. Day to day responsibilities range from workshop facilitation and rapid prototyping, to coaching junior designers and defining internal processes to drive the future of the organization.
I worked with GM business partners to ideate, test, and deliver on the future of mobility. I lead design in a balanced team alongside product management, engineering, and business stakeholders. I supported the end-to-end life-cycle of a product from concept to delivery. My daily responsibilities ranged from user research and gathering requirements, to facilitating workshops, and conveying ideas in tangible forms like sketches, wireframes, user flows, journey maps, prototypes, and annotated asset libraries. I also worked to indoctrinate agile methodologies within GM. In conjunction with these efforts, I coached teams on the principles of design justice, and advocated for UX processes that center those who are most impacted by inequities.
Through journey maps, storyboarding, wireframing, prototyping, and competitive analysis, I translated UX concepts into UI interactions. I created low to high fidelity models and prototypes for customer testing and management reviews, as well as crafted journeys to demonstrate usefulness, usability, and desirability of features and experiences. While at Ford, I organized and executed a week long usability research clinic for Autonomous Vehicle (AV) interfaces, which was awarded a certificate in recognition of extraordinary effort. In addition to my work on AV’s, I developed and tested prototypes for Augmented Reality (AR) navigation and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
As the sole designer at Fast Effect, I worked in collaboration with a team of developers to create engaging, interactive products and experiences. For nearly 4 years I was responsible for executing the UI, UX, and interaction design of an array of products - spanning across web, mobile, AR, VR, and beyond. My work on the Denso Interactive Slider was awarded 2 Telly’s - one for corporate image, and the other for general information.
